Week 5 – Day 5 Homework

What a week!

We did the template work for our Post Show Funnel – do you love it? Is it set up and ready to roll in your email scheduler of choice? Say yes, [wlm_firstname], say yes. This one will earn you so many referrals over the years and it works on autopilot. I know you came here for the pro secrets that one will up your fame and game – it’s a gem.

We’ve looked at What Makes You Different – and I hope you put some time/thought into that question. It’s going to come up in some way as you continue to play bigger. Remember to craft your answer in a way that sparks the imagination of your audience, and gives him/her a chance to shine just as brightly.

We then dipped our toe into SEO – yeah, had to reuse a great rhyme. Sorry. I gave you a very hefty assignment – and even an extra day to finish it. Today let’s pick up where that left off.

Let’s Post that Article

Please post them to our group today. My huge props go out to those of you who stepped into the fire, faced the writing/perfectionism/time/fear – whatever – and just did it. You came up with something that is keyword rich, better than what is currently ranking on the top page of Google, and will eventually deliver traffic to your site.

I had this discussion with a past member after he posted his article. I want to showcase it here in case anyone isn’t reading the group (really?!?)

Barry: what was the hardest part?

Chad: I had to do all of this from a cruise ship using the ship’s terrible internet service. That made it extra challenging and kind of made everything happen in slow-motion.

B: What stories in your head did you have to put aside?

C: The stories that I had to put aside where that I’d never be able to create something that I felt was publish-worthy.

B: How did it feel to work on it?

C: Once I got started, I actually enjoyed the process. Sam’s idea about making an already existing blog better, made this MUCH easier than I had anticipated.

B: How was it to complete and post?

C: Once I completed it, I immediately started to find inspiration for my next blog. Something about it is fun for me, although it is quite time consuming especially from a ship.

B: Do you feel more or less inclined to do another?

C: There will be many more!

Getting past the excuses – it’s crazy how much of doing this work just requires us to get the heck out of our way.

Show up. Do the work. Chop wood/carry water.

Here is a link to Chad’s article. It will attract traffic in time because he did the research. I can’t wait to hear about it, and I know I will.

You can see that Chad posted on his own blog. Smart. Very smart. Keep the traffic that he attracts right there in his sphere of influence. Let others link to it, give him authority, and backlinks.

All good – and there is something else he should be doing with it: finding other places to post it. Not exactly the same, but with small changes. Google doesn’t like duplicate content so Chad can easily make small changes to this article and get it on sites that talk about the Trade Show industry, on other blogs, and even in article directories.

Today We Post

Of course I’d like you to post this on your blog and then follow the additional steps of getting it around, but what if your site doesn’t currently have a blog? Get it fixed! It’s important to keep sites updating and blogs are the best way to do it.

Google loves blogs. They give people a reason to come back, they are hotbeds for relevant keywords, and they show that it’s constantly in the game. You need to have one and it’s silly simple to get one set up and linked to your site. Having a blog is a key part of the SEO game and SEO is a part of the ShowBiz Blueprint. So get a blog.

Does it have to be on your site? No. But I’d like it to be. You can use Tumblr, WordPress.com, Squidoo, or even Blogger, however, I’m going to say that unless there is a very real reason you aren’t hosting your own blog, just do it. Have your designer or a freelancer do it.

If this was a few years ago I’d say to put your article onto directories like eZinearticles.com – but with duplicate content filters they went the way of MySpace a few years back. Steer clear of those.

For those of you without a blog, post your article on your LinkedIN page today. Get it out there in that format so at least it is living and breathing somewhere that’s not your hard drive.

LinkedINPublishSimply press the Publish a Post button on your page and let it go. Come on, now, especially if it’s scary. It’s not going to get huge visibility but it will be found. And in the meantime, get a blog on your website.

Next, research a website that could benefit from posting your article. This will vary depending on the focus of the article but I can guarantee you they are out there.

Where did you find the articles that came up top ranking for the keywords you typed in? Find out who is running those sites and offer it to them.

And in the meantime, get your own blog. There, I said it again.

The SEO puzzle is big.

Are you up for planting some long term crops? Yes you are!
