Week 4 Live Q&A Replay – 2018

Wow – a pair of totally inspiring guests and a good chunk of Q&A – a successful day by any measure.

I hope you all found some solace in Caroline’s talk about where she was on Week 4, and where she is today. It’s been fantastic to watch her – and all alumni – as they never “go back to sleep”.

I also trust you took a lot away from Kerrianne’s live interactions with the presented sites. Whether or not she looked at yours, you saw yourself in many of the examples. What action are you going to take? How bold are you willing to be?

Remember that branding is a big process. It’s not something that happens overnight. Do the homework all this week and keep digging. We’ll circle back around to this in a later module.

NOTE: I was on the wrong mic for the first 20 minutes and then got it fixed. Apologies for the tech glitch – someone was in here recording and I didn’t check it before going live. Good news is I wasn’t talking very much of the time – but one of our guests was ROCKING it.

What You Need to Make CVI

I didn’t mention this, but here is a template that I share with producers who are booking for an end client. I show them a CVI (for a different client/show) and then ask if they’d like one for their clients. Quite often they said “YES!” and it booked the show.

If you’d like a Customized Video Introduction like this, just let me know:
  • Company name
  • Website that talks about their particular division/group
  • Venue of the Event
  • What are the dates of their entire event and what day are they considering our show?
  • Theme and Name of the Event
  • Attendees Role in Company/Association (Managers, Client Appreciation, Leadership Conf, etc)
  • Number of Attendees

00:44:32 Barry Chat: let’s talk about that David
00:44:43 Tim Hannig: yes, that would be great to see a site that is doing everything right branding-wise
00:44:54 sara kunz: agreed
00:45:00 Jon Finch: Don’t pretend to be normal.
00:45:19 Joshua Graham: I’d love to have mine critiqued! thejoshuag.com

00:48:53 David Malek: Bill is retired. He does not care.
00:49:32 Tim Hannig: good summarizing comments Jon Finch… keep them coming 👏
00:49:38 Jon Finch: Just because an established competitor does something (brown color, etc.) doesn’t mean that works for them.
00:50:28 Jon Finch: Sure thing.. marking the time for easy future review.

00:51:06 Hans Grane: www.hansgrane.no

00:57:19 Barry Chat: love that line
00:57:32 Jon Finch: 15 minutes before, color was perceived as “brown,” like a library color, which is not exciting. Nothing exciting. Best images buried down deep after scrolling down. Make layout of reviews interesting without compromising “professional” image.
00:57:37 Barry Chat: unmute Sara
00:59:16 Jon Finch: Your website is for the booker.
00:59:37 Jon Finch: The brand screens out the bad clients.
01:00:01 Jon Finch: Design your website for your ideal client, not for you.
01:00:45 Hans Grane: Could you check out mine www.hansgrane.no
01:02:50 sara kunz: thank you!
01:03:29 Dan from Glo Glee Music: www.pianomusicshow.com
01:08:17 Jon Finch: By trying to appeal to everyone, you appeal to no one.
01:08:41 Jon Finch: Seek for a few people to love you rather than many people liking you.
01:09:11 Jon Finch: Not a big fan of naming the business after owner.
01:09:25 sara kunz: name as a brand doesn’t say much, great to be reminded!

01:16:42 Tim Hannig: my school site http://pkshow.com
01:17:04 Jon Finch: consider changing thumbnail of promo video to something more exciting.
01:17:16 Barry Chat: thanks for these notes Jon!!
01:17:40 Jon Finch: First image (parralax image in navigation pane) is not exciting. Change it.
01:19:11 Jon Finch: The first image is not of me, it’s of an idea.
01:20:26 Jon Finch: “But isn’t it different for an entertainer?”
01:20:28 Mike Johns: Well according to the SBBP mindset though it seems we’re selling the solving of a problem and its not about the show
01:21:11 Tim Hannig: “so a picture of what?” is my question.
01:21:24 Jon Finch: A happy audience, Tim.
01:21:49 Dan from Glo Glee Music: whats in it for them Tim
01:24:34 Iain: Hans: will these designs work in Europe?
01:25:18 Chris Dixon: Who books that corner?
01:26:42 Jon Finch: Make quotes and reviews into graphical images.
01:26:48 Chris Dixon: “Use a quote as an image” Great design tip.
01:26:59 Hans Grane: Iain, It will probably work. She knows here stuff. Just in northern europe I feel this is really «flashy»
01:28:28 Hans Grane: www.hansgrane.no

01:41:12 Tim Hannig: “comedy that doesn’t make you cringe” 😂
01:41:53 Jon Finch: What Is Your Message?
01:42:14 Jon Finch: If your website copy does not convey that message, if it does not sing your song, then IT’S OUT.

01:48:57 sara kunz: great question dawn: how do we parse out our ideal future clients needs. answer: 1)who do i want to perform for 2)who are they, who do they want to see 3) is it a match, and how can i fit whats special and unique about me into my brand. (venn diagram of you & your goals, them & their goals, and your skills. Find the sweet spot in the middle)

01:56:27 Jon Finch: Your FB Page Is for Fans. Your Site Is for Bookers.
01:56:51 Hans Grane: So good to hear that our website is for our bookers and not our fans. Our bookers do not care for «we giving them some list for their email address»
01:57:48 Barry Chat: the close up magician changes lives. smile by smile. event by event. back slap by back slap. he changes the mood, memories, and atmosphere of events. he turns it from mush to magic.

02:01:07 Amory Hermetz: Just screen shotted that Barry 🙂
02:01:22 sara kunz: random aesthetic idea for Judy: your menu navigation could be the neck of a guitar and logo could be the body fo the guitar with your name in it
02:03:40 Jon Finch: deanapple.com
02:03:48 Jon Finch: Use fewer fonts, not 7+ fonts

02:06:28 Judy’s iPad: thanks Sara, cool idea 😄
02:06:38 Jon Finch: You want them to navigate to your booking page, and BOOK.
02:07:32 Chris Dixon: Could the instagram appeal for her be that she is doing public theater shows as opposed to corporate??
02:07:46 Jon Finch: They aren’t going to go to Instagram from your home page.
02:07:57 Barry Chat: amoryhermetz.com
02:07:58 Jon Finch: They are going to go from Google, to your Instagram, to your home page.
02:08:08 Jon Finch: Keep your site tight. Know what your goal is.
02:08:50 Tim Hannig: Barry… remember my fear of corporate people googling me and finding all the kidshow stuff? I’d love to get some clarification on that. I think you mentioned that people will see what we show them, but now I hear that if people are really interested they will google us. Any thoughts?
02:10:17 Jon Finch: amoryhermetz.com
02:11:09 sara kunz: he has a great photo at the very bottom
02:11:29 Jon Finch: Brilliant insights about the two most interesting people in main photo.
02:12:02 Jon Finch: Not, “Is this a nice photo?” but “What does this tell the booker?”
02:13:17 Jon Finch: Put Moneyshot up Top

02:15:07 michaelwashington: I have to bounce a lot of good work I will finish looking at session on play back
02:15:14 Barry Chat: good question Tim. show them the answer to their dreams on the corporate site and let them find the kid site. If you answer their dreams they’ll find the kid site charming. If your site doesn’t do a good job selling the corporate option!
02:15:33 Barry Chat: ,then they are looking for a reason to reject you.
02:16:56 Joshua Graham: thejoshuag.com if there is time. thanks Kerrianne!
02:17:39 Tim Hannig: thank you Barry.
02:18:28 David Malek: simply put if you are on brand they will scroll down.
